DAI – Land Investment for Transformation (LIFT)
Call for applications for Business Expansion Grants
to support businesses dealing with agricultural inputs and machinery
The DFID funded LIFT Programme is offering business expansion support to private Ethiopian enterprises involved in the production, import, sales and/or distribution and trading of agricultural inputs and/or machinery in Amhara, Oromia, Tigray and SNNP regions. LIFT will support business expansion activities by private enterprises aiming to increase their production and/or distribution network to defined woredas in Amhara, Oromia, Tigray and SNNP regions that have received (or will receive) a Second Level Land Certificate (SLLC).
Products include but are not limited to: improved seeds, seedlings, fertilizers, bio-fertilizers, crop protection products, agricultural tools and equipment, small scale irrigation equipment, farm machinery, post-harvest handling equipment, animal feed, fodder seeds, etc.
The primary objective of LIFT is to increase farmer access to and adoption of the agricultural inputs. LIFT already has identified agro-dealers in the target woredas and anticipates that through the commercial supply linkages between suppliers and these local agro-input retailers, SLLC farmers will be able to access and purchase the inputs and machinery at a cheaper price and increase their individual productivity and income.
Criteria for Application
The applicants (enterprises) must fulfil the following eligibility criteria:
• Are active, registered, and licensed businesses dealing with agricultural inputs or machinery (production/importing and/or trading) based in Ethiopia and are operating/interested to operate in Amhara, Oromia, SNNP and Tigray regions.
• Have been in operation as an enterprise for a minimum of two years before the date of the application and have the vision and financial resources to expand their distribution networks in rural areas for agricultural inputs and machinery with DFID LIFT support.
The successful applicant will receive a Cost Shared Financial Grant. LIFT’s support for a single grant cannot exceed 50% of the anticipated total grant value. The remainder will have to be funded by the applicant. The trade expansion grant will have to be completed within 12 months.
Applications need to be sent to LIFT in electronic format (MS Word) by no later than December 20, 2018. The Application template can be downloaded here:
