A call for proposal to conduct Research on Floral and faunal distribution (biodiversity) and associated important ecosystems as well as a baseline socio- economic survey for identifying NTFP based viable income generating options.

  1. Background

MELCA-ETHIOPIA is an indigenous, non-governmental, not for profit making and secular development organization working for a healthy ecosystem, vibrant culture and improved lives of communities in Ethiopia through developing and spreading innovative methods. MELCA-Ethiopia was registered by Federal charities and societies Agency, registration number 0348 dated December 2016. MELCA-Ethiopia operates in 6 project offices in 5 regional states (Oromia, SNNPR, Amhara, Benishangul Gumuz and Gembella)  strategiing four programmatic areas Environmental Governance, Livelihood promotion, Agro ecology and Children and Youth Empowerment program. 

  1. Purpose and Scope of the work

As part of our development intervention, we have launched a project entitled “Promotion of Improved Natural Resource Management, Agro-Ecological Practice and Livelihoods in Nono Sele Woreda of Oromia National Regional State” as a pilot engagement in some selected Kebeles. Among the planned activities to be realized within one-year duration, the project is expected to conduct research on floral and faunal distribution (biodiversity) and associated important ecosystems as well as a baseline socio- economic survey for identifying NTFP based viable income generating options.

  1. Competence of the consulting firm

The work will be carried out by a team of experienced researchers/scholars in the field of conducting similar baselines and research. MELCA highly encourage researchers/firm with multi-disciplinary exposure on livelihood/economics, senior botanist, wildlife specialist and forestry/Environmentalist. Especially, those researchers who have a proven experience in conducting researches particularly for NGO sector requirements have a comparative advantage. The teams of researchers are required to have a minimum of MSc education level and at least six years of service in related field of study.
